About the Band
Blues Dharma is an Indo-Blues fusion band founded in 2017 by Carnatic (South Indian Classical) Musician Divyanand Caird and veteran Blues maestro Robert Hokum. The band is probably the first of its kind in the UK to combine the Blues tradition with Indian Classical (North and South) Music without dilution of the respective musical traditions whilst exploring the synergies between the two music forms. The acoustic band is a combination of Saraswati Veena (the ancient South Indian Lute), Guitar, Vocal and Indian percussion. The band has been hugely successful, regularly featured at Ealing Jazz Festival and successive performances at Swanage Blues Festival in 2019 and recently early in March 2020, as well as in Arts Centres and Universities. The performances of Blues Dharma have electrified audiences and given them a new fusion musical experience and window into experiencing the trueness of Indian and Blues traditions resulting in gaining a new audience. The band began with Tabla (North Indian percussion) and recently has inducted Mridangam (South Indian percussion) as well.
